OK, what’s easier than pie?  A Galette! What is this Galette I speak of? Well, it is the rustic French cousin of a pie.  This is how easy it is:

Step 1: Roll out a refrigerated pie crust (no need to make your own – refrigerated crust is delish!)

Step 2: Mix some fruit in a bowl with a little sugar, spices and flour

Step 3: Pour fruit into center of pie crust, leaving a 2 inch border.

Step 4: Fold up border of crust over edge of fruit all the way around

Step 5: Bake! Done!

Enjoy!

This Galette is 'easier than pie'! Store-bought pie crust and brown sugar coated apples bake together to make a yummy dessert to be served with caramel sauce & vanilla ice cream!

By:

Ingredients
  • 1 (9 inch) refrigerated pie crust
  • 3 apples - peeled & sliced into 1/4 inch slices (about 4 c of slices)
  • 1/4 c brown sugar
  • 1.5 TBSP flour
  • 2 tsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 egg - beaten
  • Salted Caramel sauce (store bought)
Directions
  • Step 1 Preheat oven to 375 degrees
  • Step 2 Gently unfold & roll out the pie crust on a parchment lined baking sheet or baking stone
  • Step 3 Prepare filling: Mix the apples, brown sugar, lemon juice, flour, cinnamon & nutmeg together in a large bowl
  • Step 4 Pour the fruit mixture in the center of the pie crust, leaving a 2 inch border. Fold up the uncovered border over the edge of the fruit & pinch into pleats
  • Step 5 Brush egg wash onto the crust & drizzle salted caramel sauce over the filling (not the crust)
  • Step 6 Bake about 30 minutes, until crust is golden brown. Cool for 10 minutes before slicing into wedges & serving – excellent with vanilla ice cream!
